Is stretch mark removal possible with Microneedling?
Nearly everyone is touched by stretch marks. Some of us encounter more than other people do, and some are more comfortable with theirs than their peers are. Stretch marks became a symbol of womanhood for many women because they appeared after periods of growth and change. A tiger is beautiful with its stripes, but it’s perfectly understandable why some people don’t feel positively about their stretch marks. Is stretch mark removal possible, and what does it have to do with microneedling?
Why do stretch marks appear?
Stretch marks are almost inevitable, because they commonly appear during puberty. During rapid hormonal changes and fluctuations, our bodies begin to develop at a rate faster than our skin can react to. This is why stretch marks can appear commonly on the hips, breasts, and thighs because this is where the development and growth of women happens rapidly. They’re also common after pregnancy and with sudden weight gain.
How do they form?
Stretch marks form because of growth that your skin can’t keep up with. When it is stretched too far, the body’s natural collagen production is disrupted, and the skin becomes thin and pulled. They’re completely harmless, and newer stretch marks tend to be red or purple in colour while older stretch marks are silvery or faded.
Stretch mark removal with microneedling
Because stretch marks appear through a lack of collagen in a period of time when skin needs to be extra elasticated, the stimulation of collagen can help to improve them. Microneedling uses a handheld device with a device-head of tiny needles. These tiny needles are used to puncture your skin, creating micro needle columns that penetrate the dermis. The skin registers these punctures as wounds, which kickstarts your it’s natural healing processes. Collagen and elastin production begins and new skin cells are produced to replace those damaged by the needles. This helps to restructure the skin from the inside, smoothing the appearance of stretch marks.
Stretch mark removal results
When microneedling stretch marks, you might find that your stretch marks feel smoother, less dimpled, and blend into your natural skin tone more. Both older and newer stretch marks can be difficult to treat, but they’re appearance and texture can very easily be decreased with stretch mark removal using professional microneedling treatments.
Treating scarring with microneedling
Collagen is one of the building blocks of your skin, so when it doesn’t knit together well through some form of trauma or impaired healing it can result in visible scarring. When your skin is in trauma and it rushes to heal itself, its produces large amounts of collagen that don’t always knit together as they should. This is commonly seen in rolling acne scarring and ice pick acne scarring, but this scarring can happen all over the body. Because microneedling stimulates the even production of collagen in a much more controlled and less traumatic manner than an immediate skin injury, it can help to soften the appearance of scarring.
