Stretch marks are the livid red lines that occur when we put on excessive weight, particularly if we do it fast, as in the case of becoming pregnant. These lines fade to silver over time, but they’re still unsightly and an unwelcome reminder that our skin is not producing the amount of collagen it once did, when we were younger. With youthfully high collagen levels, our skin is better able to recover from any strain without being marked by the experience.
A decrease in collagen levels means our skin isn’t as firm as it once was. Loose skin, particularly skin that is harbouring stretch marks, which tend to occur around the abdomen, thighs and buttocks, is unattractive and signals our advancing years. However, there is an effective way to get rid of stretch marks which are non-invasive and will restore affected skin back to its smoother, more youthful-looking state. How does our Harley Street stretch mark removal treatment work?
Microneedling involves puncturing the skin with many ultra-fine needles in the highly targeted area of the skin that contains the offending stretch marks. An anaesthetic cream will be applied to the skin beforehand, so you won’t be uncomfortable during the procedure. The needles will be controlled by our highly experienced practitioner. The resulting puncture marks will soon subside. They’re not what’s important here, but rather the effect they have on the body.
This is a treatment that tricks the body into thinking it has sustained a skin injury that needs repairing. Once the punctures are detected, your body will automatically take measures to repair the skin. Your collagen levels will be increased, as will your cell regeneration rate. Fresh skin tissue will be created to replace the old surface layers that contain stretch marks. This fresh tissue will be blemish free.
Once the puncture marks have healed, the skin will be smooth and free from stretch marks, with an even skin tone. You may require a number of microneedling sessions from one of our clinics. The number of sessions you’ll require to remove the marks completely depends on how deep they are and the coverage. Larger expanses of skin may take more time.
