How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling at L’Atelier skin clinic on Harley Street & Mayfair is a revolutionary treatment that can treat scarring, pigmentation and skin laxity, amongst other skin and ageing concerns.
The treatment works by creating tiny punctures in the skin with fine needles, which tighten the skin’s connective tissue and boost the production of collagen. In other words, the treatment helps repair the skin, as well as enhance its firmness.
What can microneedling help with?
As well as its ability to regenerate areas of the skin that have succumbed to scarring (such as through acne), it can also even the skin tone (including sun spots), target large pores, refine the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and boost skin elasticity and overall texture. Finally, in some cases, it can also improve stretch marks.
What do I need to know about risks, side effects and downtime?
Some redness and sensitivity is to be expected following a microneedling procedure, but it’s unlikely you’ll experience any of the more rare complications, such as bleeding or infection.
Downtime is minimal, and you should be able to go right back to work after treatment. However, you will need to be extra careful in the sun as your skin will be more sensitive and susceptible to burning. Avoiding heat treatments and strenuous exercise is also advised.
Who can have microneedling?
Most people will be eligible, however, it’s not recommended in certain situations, for example, if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. We always offer clients a consultation before booking treatment, to ensure any treatment is suitable for you.
How often do I need it?
Treatment will need to be repeated for optimum results. We can guide you on this during your consultation with us. Results usually take around 6 weeks to fully appear and we recommend 3 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart.
